SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Maurice West II, D-Rockford, issued the following statement after Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave his first budget address Wednesday:

“Our state faces a number of difficult budgetary challenges, and I am appreciative of the governor’s willingness to discuss the need to make tough decisions.

“After years of unnecessary, painful budget decisions by the previous administration, I believe we will see more input and negotiation from members of both parties, as well as outside stakeholders. We have to protect funding for critical, life-saving services that residents in Rockford depend on, while focusing on areas, such as higher education and vocational training, that will create opportunity and move our state forward.

“I look forward to looking at the details of the proposals the governor discussed today. This year’s budget process will have a lasting impact on the direction of our state and our community for years to come.”
