SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address Wednesday:

“As we begin the budgeting process, we have to focus on investing in critically-needed services that did not receive the attention they deserved over the past four years.

“As Chairperson of the House Higher Education Appropriations Committee, I recognize that our state’s higher education system was hurt by our former governor’s reckless political decisions, but now we have a chance to prioritize our state’s schools. Additionally, we can renew our commitment to critically-needed services, such as Meals on Wheels and cancer screenings that seniors and families across our state depend on.

“I look forward to taking a close look at the ideas put forth by the governor today, but I am encouraged by his willingness to work cooperatively on these issues. I value the upcoming opportunity to work with his administration, stakeholders and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make the tough decisions our state needs.”
