SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Following Governor Pritzker’s Budget Address today, state Rep. Nicholas Smith, D-Chicago releases the following statement:
“Today, the governor laid out his vision for addressing the long-term fiscal problems facing the state of Illinois. I am looking to forward to engaging discussions with a governor willing to cooperate and compromise with the General Assembly to tackle the issues facing our state. The last four years saw a governor with a lack of desire to compromise on his extreme agenda, which did nothing but cause lasting harm to the state of Illinois.
“As we begin to move forward with budgetary negotiations, I will prioritize more funding for education at all levels, from our elementary schools to our world-class universities. Educating a skilled work-force to help propel Illinois requires the full attention of everyone in state government.
“Working together with the governor and my colleagues in the General Assembly, we can ensure every Illinoisan has the opportunity to succeed and grow. Through thoughtful bipartisan compromise and negotiation, we can take up the job of improving our state.”
