SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After Gov. J.B. Pritzker delivered his first budget address, state Rep. Lamont Robinson, D-Chicago, issued the following statement to highlight his priority of improving Illinois’ financial wellbeing:
“As we work to move forward from the last four years, we are still seeing the full extent of the damage caused by former Governor Bruce Rauner digging in his heels and refusing to compromise, all while the people of Illinois suffered. Our state is in a dire financial situation, teetering on the brink of junk bond status and tough decisions are necessary to move us forward.
“As a small-business owner, I can tell you from experience that businesses cannot get away with not paying their bills, and I do not think the state should be able to get away with it either. Four years of gridlock is enough, which is why I am happy to hear Governor Pritzker’s budget reflects Democrats’ commitment to protecting critical services and moving Illinois towards fiscal stability.
“I am committed to joining with lawmakers from around the state to do what is best for Illinois. While there may be some tough decisions that need to be made to get the state back on track, I am ready to have a seat at the bargaining table and use my expertise as a business owner to help craft a balanced budget.”
