SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After Gov. J.B. Pritzker delivered his first budget address on Wednesday, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, issued the following statement highlighting her priorities to compromise for a balanced budget that ensures funding for critical services:

“I am encouraged to hear Gov. Pritzker say that he is open and willing to compromise as we move forward with budget negotiations. There are some tough decisions to be made to get Illinois on more positive footing, and everyone deserves a seat at the bargaining table.

“Illinois has turned a new page, and it is going to take lawmakers from around the state, both Democrats and Republicans, to come together to find solutions to the problems we face. While there is still a lot of negotiating to do before we know what the final state budget looks like, I believe it is absolutely essential that we continue to ensure funding for programs that our most vulnerable residents rely upon, like Meals on Wheels and The Autism Program, and maintain our commitment to fully fund education.

“I look forward to working in a bipartisan manner to do what is best for Illinois and support a budget that funds these important services while working to pay down the enormous backlog of unpaid bills.”
