SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In the moments after Gov. Pritzker’s Budget Address to a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly, State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, issued the following statement:

“The past four years of budgetary carnage caused by Bruce Rauner resulted in billions of dollars in outstanding state-owed obligations. Today, Governor Pritzker presented his plan to begin restoring the state’s financial stability to move us forward.

“In the days and weeks ahead, it will be crucial for us to identify areas of excessive spending to reduce the debt burden. We need to prioritize the state’s financial needs above partisanship in order to overcome budgetary shortfalls.

“I am committed to working in good faith with the governor and fellow lawmakers to address the state’s most pressing needs first. This is a crucial first step in lifting our state above the fray of financial and economic uncertainty.”
