SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In the moments after Gov. Pritzker introduced his proposed budget to a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly, state Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, released the following statement:

“The last four years have been a difficult and tumultuous time for the state’s financial well-being. During this time, our state has fallen drastically short on its financial obligations, as debt rose well into the billions.

“In his budget address today, Gov. Pritzker unveiled his plan for Illinois’ financial future. To be meet these goals, we need to rein in excessive spending and carefully account for revenues to get our finances back under control.

“Moving the state forward is going to require good faith negotiations and cooperation from Democrats and Republicans, and I am prepared to engage with both sides to develop a path forward.
