SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Fred Crespo, D-Hoffman Estates, released the following statement following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address:

“Our state faces many challenges after the reckless leadership of the last administration, which deteriorated social service agencies, pushed Illinois’ credit rating to near junk bond status, and racked up over $15 billion of dollars in unpaid bills. Getting our state back on track will not be easy, but Governor Pritzker’s remarks were an encouraging first step as we work with legislators on both sides of the aisle on a path forward.

“Tough decisions will have to be made over the coming months, as we work to reinvest in our local schools, rebuild our infrastructure, and provide real property tax relief for middle-class families. As a former appropriations chairman, I am encouraged that the governor shares our commitment to funding the essential services that our most vulnerable citizens rely on. I look forward to productive negotiations with Governor Pritzker and Republicans and Democrats alike in order to pass a responsible budget that brings much-needed stability to our state.”
