SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, issued the following statement after Gov. J.B. Pritzker delivered his first budget address for the state:
“For the first time in four years, a governor stood before the General Assembly and offered straight talk about the catastrophic effect Bruce Rauner’s budget crisis had on our state finances, our universities and our most vulnerable residents.
“It was Democratic efforts that prevented further damage from being done by Rauner, and while there is much work still to be done, we now have a governor who will work with us to tackle Illinois’ problems. The budget proposal is a first step toward confronting those problems, which includes controlling spending while investing in vital services like schools, job training and safer communities. I look forward to working in good faith with both parties and our new governor to putting Illinois back on a path to financial stability.”
