SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, recently announced her committee assignments for the 2019-20 legislative session, which will focus on her core issues of education, mental health, economic development, and protecting children, seniors and people with disabilities.

“Legislative committees are the places where good ideas begin the process of becoming laws,” said Costa Howard. “I am excited to begin serving on these committees and hearing from constituents and fellow lawmakers as they weigh in on the issues that matter most to them.”

Costa Howard will serve on the following committees: Cities & Villages; Elementary & Secondary Education: School Curriculum & Policies; Judiciary – Civil; Mental Health; State Government Administration; and Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges.

“These committee assignments reflect my years of experience as an attorney, a small business owner, a former school board member, and a court-appointed guardian ad litem for vulnerable people,” Costa Howard said. “I am honored by this opportunity to contribute my ideas and expertise to our law-making process, and I will work hard to make sure that we prioritize legislation that will support local schools, help small businesses thrive and grow, and promote good government and fiscal responsibility.”

Costa Howard added that she plans to begin forming citizen advisory committees to give her constituents a clear channel to discuss early-stage legislation.

“I want to make sure that the people of my district are well-informed about the work we are doing in Springfield, and I want to make sure their good ideas are heard in the Capitol,” Costa Howard said. “By working together and sharing our best ideas, our community leaders and legislators can find solutions to make Illinois better for all of us.”
