SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, will work to rebuild Illinois’ human services infrastructure and focus on consumer protection and public safety as a member of key House committees this legislative session.
“I am excited to bring my experience in the private and public sectors to my committees, but most critically, I look forward to using my membership on these committees to make the voices of our neighborhoods heard throughout Illinois,” said Lilly. “I have dedicated my life and career to community development, creating economic opportunity, and reducing violence, and I will use my experience to rebuild the human service infrastructure broken during the four years of former Gov. Bruce Rauner’s tenure and to restore consumer protection and smart public safety policy to the forefront of our focus in the coming weeks and months.”
During this legislative session, Lilly will serve as vice-chair of the Appropriations-Public Safety Committee and as a member of the Appropriations-Human Services Committee and the Insurance Committee. Additionally, Lilly will chair the Financial Institutions and Museums, Arts, & Cultural Enhancement committees. As a member of the Appropriations-Human Services Committee, Lilly will work to rebuild the human service infrastructure of Illinois, which is critical to developing safe and vibrant communities by providing services to seniors and domestic violence survivors. As vice-chair of the Appropriations-Public Safety Committee, Lilly will fight to expand violence reduction programs. As a member of the Insurance Committee, Lilly will fight to protect consumers from predatory business practices and junk insurance policies.
“Whether it is insurance access, social services, or violence prevention, these committees reflect the many issues our families face,” said Lilly. “As a member of these committees, I can play an important role in advocating for community development and economic opportunity through human services, consumer protection and violence prevention.”
