SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Karina Villa, D-West Chicago, will serve on the following committees during the 2019-20 sessions: Appropriations – Elementary and Secondary Education, Elementary and Secondary Education: School Curriculum and Policies, Health Care Availability and Accessibility, Labor and Commerce and Mental Health.
“Legislation must pass through committee before it is voted on in the House and heads to the Senate for consideration,” said Villa. “I am excited to use my experience and knowledge as a school social worker to be an advocate on legislation for education and mental health services.”
Each piece of legislation is assigned to a relevant committee, making committees one of the first steps in the lawmaking process. While serving on these committees, Villa will prioritize legislation that will benefit local schools, ensure access to mental health and protect access to affordable health care.
“With my experience as a school social worker and a union member with the Illinois Education Association, I understand the importance of investments into our children’s education, as well as the necessity for comprehensive preventative health care, including mental health services” continued Villa. “I look forward to working with legislators from around the state to pass legislation that will positively impact our children and their schools, as well as our communities and state as a whole.”
