CREST HILL, Ill. – State Rep. John Connor, D-Lockport, and state Sen. Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, are partnering with the office of the Illinois State Treasurer to host an I-Cash event to help local residents find any unclaimed funds they may be owed on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their district office, located at 16151 S. Weber Rd., Suite 103 in Crest Hill.
“If someone has an uncashed payroll check or is owed a refund but never claimed it, the funds are held by the treasurer’s office until they are collected by the rightful owner,” Connor said. “Many people aren’t aware that they may have unclaimed property in the treasurer’s office, but hosting an I-Cash event gives local residents the opportunity to find and claim money owed to them.”
The Illinois State Treasurer’s office holds $2.9 billion in unclaimed funds, which can come from uncashed payroll checks, uncashed stock dividends and stock certificates, refund checks, money orders, traveler’s checks and even uncashed death benefit checks and life insurance payouts. Connor and McGuire’s I-Cash event will feature experts from the treasurer’s office who will be available to answer questions, help residents search the state’s I-Cash system for unclaimed property and offer free help filing a claim.
“Checking to see if you are entitled to unclaimed or forgotten property through the state’s I-Cash system is quick and easy,” Connor said. “I encourage those who cannot attend the event but are interested in finding out if they have unclaimed property to visit the I-Cash website at https://icash.illinoistreasurer.gov/.”
