SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As the upcoming legislative session approaches, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, is inviting local religious leaders to offer an invocation before the Illinois House of Representatives.

“Each session day is started with an invocation, and I encourage any religious leaders interested in leading the House in prayer to reach out to my office,” said Mussman. “The Illinois House of Representatives welcomes prayers from leaders of all religions.”

At the beginning of each session day, a religious leader leads the chamber in a brief invocation. Religious leaders interested in offering an invocation should register with Mussman as soon as possible, as space is limited and is reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“Inviting a local religious leader to offer the invocation provides a great opportunity to highlight the religious diversity of our local communities and gives lawmakers a moment to reflect before we begin debating on important issues facing our state,” continued Mussman. “I encourage any religious leaders interested in delivering the invocation to reach out to my office, and I look forward to the opportunity to meet the different leaders of faith in Illinois.”
