CREST HILL, Ill. – With frigid temperatures and snowfall in the upcoming weather forecast, state Rep. John Connor, D-Lockport, has been reaching out to seniors in his district to make sure that they are warm and well-equipped for the forecasted weather conditions.

“Seniors are especially vulnerable in the winter months, and it’s important for us to check on our elderly neighbors and loved ones to ensure they’re safe and comfortable during the extreme cold,” Connor said. “Whether we’re shoveling our neighbor’s sidewalk or making sure their heat is turned on, we need to do what we can to keep them safe in this weather.”

With temperatures expected to be below zero over the coming weeks, Connor has been encouraging local residents who do not have reliable heat to visit local warming centers and use space heaters in their homes. A list of local warming centers can downloaded at https://www.willcountyillinois.com/News/local-warming-centers. Locations in and near Connor’s district include Bolingbrook Fire Stations, the Lockport Central Square Building and the Romeoville Recreation Center.

“Isolation can be another threat to seniors during the extreme cold, and visiting a warming center can help seniors socialize while remaining safe and warm,” Connor said. “Warming centers are a great resource for anyone who does not have working heat during the winter.”
