CHICAGO – Looking to help residents with their neighborhood sidewalk repairs, state Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, is encouraging neighbors to apply for the city’s annual Shared Cost Sidewalk Program.

“Applications for have recently opened for this great program which helps residents repair their neighborhood sidewalks,” said Harper. “This allows homeowners to work with the city to fix a broken sidewalk on their street, where the city picks up some of the cost instead of the homeowner paying for the entire repair.”

Harper is urging residents to apply for the City of Chicago’s shared Cost Sidewalk Program, which creates a partnership between homeowners and the city to fix neighborhood sidewalks. This year, the mayor adding an additional $1 million to the program’s budget, allowing for more residents to apply and strengthening the city’s ability to repair sidewalks with residents. Applications are received on a first-come, first-serve basis. Harper is asking interested residents to call 311 for more information if they want to participate in the program.

“Residents should waste no time in applying because this program is limited in time and funds,” said Harper. “This is a great way for people to connect with the city and repair much of our neighborhoods’ broken sidewalks.”

Harper represents the 6th District, which includes all or portions of Armour Square, Bridgeport, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Gage Park, Back of the Yards, Canaryville, New City, West Englewood, and Marquette Park.
