ROCKFORD, Ill. – As he begins his first term in Springfield, state Rep. Maurice West, D-Rockford, is encouraging residents to submit their ideas for legislation that they believe can help improve the state and local community.

“The voice of the community is the strongest voice for the community, and I desire to hear thoughts on new legislation from our district’s residents,” West said. “Rockford is home to a diverse population with diverse areas of expertise that can shed light on solutions to the issues that we face.”

West is asking residents to submit their ideas for new legislation by calling 815-987-7433, emailing ideas@StateRepWEST.com or by visiting his district office in the E.J. “Zeke” Giorgi Center, located at 200 S. Wyman St., Suite 304, Rockford, IL 61101. West and his staff will review submitted ideas, and may have them drafted for consideration in Springfield. Residents must submit their ideas by Jan. 22 to be considered.

“Any idea, whether it is small or large in scope, will be considered,” West said. “Our state faces a number of challenges, and to help solve them I believe it’s important that we tap into the insight of our communities.”
