SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after being sworn in as state Representative of the 4th District for the 101st General Assembly:

“For too long, corporate insiders and the ultra-wealthy have been prioritized at the expense of working families. It’s time to turn a new page in Illinois, to fight for a more progressive, inclusive and equitable government that will provide equal opportunity to all Illinoisans.

“The past four years of failure by Gov. Rauner have been devastating for Illinois, which is why it’s time to move forward with a bold, progressive agenda for Illinois’ future. Working together we can enact the positive change that our state needs by making the wealthiest pay their fair share, giving our neighborhood schools the resources they need, ensuring access to affordable housing, providing access to quality healthcare, investing in our state’s infrastructure, creating jobs with livable wages and protecting the rights of all Illinoisans regardless of what country they were born in.

“As I begin my first term in Springfield, I remain humbled and inspired by the neighbors who sent me here. I still live on the same block that I grew up on, where I worked with nonprofits and advocacy groups to fight for the resources that we deserve. Now, as state Representative, I remain rooted in this community, and I’m ready to serve.”
