SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, issued the following statement in the moments after Wednesday’s inauguration ceremony for the 101st Illinois General Assembly.
“As state government transitions with the incoming governor and newly sworn-in members of the General Assembly, new opportunities will allow us to negotiate in good faith to compromise on meaningful paths to move the state forward.
“In the weeks and months ahead, it is critically important that we utilize this as a time to unite both sides of the aisle, to identify shared interests and priorities, which will help us address the diverse challenges facing our state.
“I am highly encouraged by early efforts of the incoming administration to engage both Republican and Democratic leaders in exploring plans to make Illinois functional for those who call it home.
“Together, with the help of dedicated lawmakers who represent diverse communities and wide-ranging perspectives, I am confident that we will move the state back on track by focusing on our shared interests – supporting access to health care, delivering on education, and by creating jobs and economic opportunities.”
