BELLEVILLE, Ill. – With the holiday season underway, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is reminding local families to review the attorney general’s annual toy safety guide and to take precautions when making holiday purchases for young children.

“It is increasingly important that parents and families are aware of the potential dangers some toys and devices may pose to young children,” Hoffman said. “I highly encourage parents to take precaution and carefully consider their purchase of small toys that could cause choking or other forms of harm.”

Hoffman is advising local parents and families to review the official 2018 Safe Shopping Guide released annually by Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office. The guide, which can be found at http://illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/pressroom/2018_11/2018_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf, includes photos and descriptions of toys and products that have been flagged and recalled over the course of the last year. According to the attorney general, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has listed 41 recalls of children’s products. Hoffman is encouraging parents to exercise caution while buying gifts, whether in-store or online.

“The attorney general’s toy safety guide is a great resource to review during the holiday season,” Hoffman said. “My hope is that families give careful consideration to their holiday purchases for young children.”

For more information about recalled products, residents can also contact the attorney general’s Recall Hotline at 1-888-414-7678.
