SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – To start the 101st General Assembly in Illinois, state Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, is asking her constituents to submit legislative ideas that she can introduce to become law in 2019.

“I am always looking for feedback on the work I’m doing in Springfield, and I do not want anyone to miss a chance to speak with me about new ideas we can accomplish together,” said Harper. “This is the whole point of democratic representation. We listen to the people and work on their behalf to make their lives better.”

Harper is asking her residents to think of clever and creative bill ideas for her to introduce to become law down the road. Those who are interested in participating should email their ideas to repsonyaharper@gmail.com with specifics on what their proposal would accomplish. Any and all ideas are welcome and can be submitted throughout the rest of this month. People who develop ideas that that are introduced as legislation may have a chance to testify before a House committee to explain their plans.

“It’s amazing what ideas can become law, so no one should feel shy about thinking of new ways to improve Illinois,” said Harper. “I look forward to reviewing the proposals that come to my office and the chance to sit down with a constituent in front of a committee to explain these ideas.”

Harper represents the 6th District, which includes all or portions of Armour Square, Bridgeport, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Gage Park, Back of the Yards, Canaryville, New City, West Englewood, Marquette Park, South Loop and River North.
