Chicago, Ill. – State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, issued the following statement in response to the recent events concerning immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border:
“The horrific stories coming out of Texas about the treatment of migrants and their children trouble me to my core. Although the administration claims they will now stop their practice of forceful separation of families, it is clear a legislative solution is needed to ensure it is stopped and address the wider issues of immigration altogether.
“In a country that prides itself on standing for compassion and doing what’s right, we must do better. What is occurring is inhumane and un-American. I urge Congress to act quickly and pass meaningful legislation to help those coming to this country looking for a better life and to make sure everyone in this country is treated with dignity and respect.”
