Springfield, Ill. – In response to the passage of Senate Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 4, the Equal Rights Amendment, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, issued the following statement:

“Last night, we passed a historic measure that brings our constitution one step closer to finally guaranteeing women full equality under the law. Equality is not a partisan issue and I was very proud of my colleagues from the other side of the aisle that chose to stand on the right side of history and helped pass this historic amendment.

“Our constitution is meant to protect everyone, and by passing this measure we are only one state away from amending the United States Constitution to guarantee equal rights for all, regardless of gender. I am proud to have been a part of this historic vote that was made possible due to the tireless advocacy of strong women.”
