SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Continuing to stand with state employees in the Metro East, state Rep. Monica Bristow, D-Godfrey, recently passed legislation that would appropriate the back pay owed to state employees for work already completed.

“It’s ridiculous that the state of Illinois still owes state employees’ wages dating all the way back to 2011,” said Bristow. “This debt is now some of the oldest in Illinois and represents money owed to employees for work already completed more than 7 years ago.  As former President of the Riverbend Growth Association, I know that local businesses are not allowed to operate in that way, and the state should have to follow the same rules when it comes to paying employees.”

House Bill 4290, which was cosponsored by Bristow, recently passed out of the Illinois House with strong bipartisan support from representatives from throughout the state.

“We count on state workers to come to work every day to help our local governments and agencies function.  We rely on them daily, so they need to be made a priority,” continued Bristow.  “I want our state workers to know that I stand with them unapologetically, and I am proud to have sponsored the legislation to restore their wages that are long overdue.”
