KINCAID, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, will be partnering with the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office to host an I-Cash event at Kincaid Food Market next week.

“Over the last two years, the Illinois state Treasurer’s Office has paid out over $300 million in unclaimed assets, so it is worth doing a free search every few months to find out if you have unclaimed property,” said Scherer. “This unclaimed property could be in the form of a forgotten safety deposit box, a security deposit, an uncashed life insurance policy, etc.”

Scherer’s I-Cash Event will be at the Kincaid Food Market, located at 430 Market Street, on Thursday, May 17 from 4 to 6 pm. A representative from Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs’ office will be available to help folks do a free search to find unclaimed property.

“I encourage folks to stop by the Kincaid Food Market to do a free search to see if they have any unclaimed property with the state,” continued Scherer. “You may find that the state possesses property that is rightfully yours, so by filling out a claim you can have your assets easily returned to you.”

Scherer represents the 96th District, which includes portions of Christian, Macon and Sangamon counties.
