SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, successfully worked with Democrats and Republicans to recently reject a pay increase for politicians.

“Legislators should focus on schools and social services, not salary increases for themselves,” said D’Amico.  “State resources should not continue to go towards bigger paychecks for politicians when so many residents need those resources more.”

D’Amico voted to eliminate an automatic cost of living increase that would have taken effect in July by passing House Bill 5760. D’Amico’s vote also denies any increase in member mileage and lodging reimbursements paid to members of the General Assembly, constitutional officers in the executive branch and agency directors and deputy directors.

“Legislators too often forget the ‘serve’ part of their roles as a ‘public servant’,” D’Amico continued. “While I am in Springfield, I will continue to make sure that the people come first, not the politicians.”
