SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Over the weekend, state Rep. Sonya M. Harper, D-Chicago, partnered with Ald. Sophia King to offer residents a chance to destroy outdated and sensitive documents at their Shred-A-Thon event.

“Everyone is vulnerable to falling victim to identity theft, and criminals are getting better at stealing personal information,” said Harper. “Safely and securely disposing of old documents that contain personal information is a good way to prevent theft and stop those criminals in their tracks. Hosting free community shred days is one way that I can help my neighbors take precautions to avoid becoming victims.”

Harper and King partnered to give local residents a chance to dispose of their documents that contain sensitive information. Families stopped by to take advantage of the free service that is regularly offered by the two officials.
