SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A measure sponsored by state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, that would require the Department of Central Management Services (CMS) to consolidate their offices to Sangamon County passed out of the Illinois House with strong bipartisan support.

“Since our state Capitol is Springfield, it makes sense to have the prime location of Central Management Services here as well,” said Scherer.  “This measure will require offices, such as those in the Chicago area, to be moved to Sangamon County.  This will promote good government, as the department will operate much more seamlessly.”

Scherer’s measure, House Bill 4295, is the result of a workforce study conducted by CMS that revealed that the department could feasibly move nearly 500 positions from throughout the state of Illinois to the more central location of Sangamon County.

“With the Department of Central Management Services relocating the majority of their offices to Sangamon County, opportunities for consolidation may open up, which will save taxpayers money,” continued Scherer.  “I encourage my colleagues in the Senate to support this measure, so it can then go to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law.”
