CHICAGO, Ill. –State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, released the following statement in response to the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization’s (LVEJO) press conference highlighting the proposed redevelopment for the Crawford Coal Power Plant site:

“Communities of color have long suffered the consequences of environmental injustice. I stand with groups like the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization who fought long and hard to close down this site. They did so with the hope that the site would later be turned into something that would benefit the community economically rather than continue to put their health at risk.

“It is unacceptable for the groups involved to back away from the promises made to our communities in the Southwest side. The Little Village Environmental Justice Organization has a thorough vision for the redevelopment of the site and as a result they should be fully involved in the planning for this site moving forward.”
