ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With the 2017 tax filing deadline around the corner, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is reminding victims of last summer’s historic flooding about a one-time $750 Flood Victims’ Tax Credit.
“Last summer, our area was devastated by historic flooding. Residents lost their homes, local schools flooded, a hospital evacuated and the Red Cross opened an emergency shelter at Magee Middle School in Round Lake,” Yingling said. “To help my constituents, I introduced and passed a new law creating a one-time state income tax credit to help victims of the flood recover and rebuild. As tax day approaches, I am reminding residents and business owners impacted by the flooding to apply for this credit to receive up to a $750 income tax credit.”
Yingling is reminding residents to apply for this important tax credit before the April 15 tax filing deadline. Important documentation and paper work necessary to claim the credit includes copies of receipts or estimates to repair real estate property, an IRS 4684 form, and a Natural Disaster Income Tax Credit Certificate which will need to be signed by a county or township assessor.
“Whether it be the tornado that ripped through portions of Wildwood or the countywide flooding from last summer, our communities always come together to lend a helping hand whenever disaster strikes,” Yingling said. “It is my hope that this important one-time tax credit will help those who were affected and the countless homeowners who sustained costly damage.”
