SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A bill introduced last spring to protect and safeguard workers, sponsored by state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is now awaiting approval from the governor.

“During my time serving in the state legislature, I have worked to protect the rights and safety of Illinois workers. Working men and women are the backbone of our communities, and they deserve more protections,” Hoffman said. “That’s why I sponsored legislation that creates the Workers’ Protection Unit and the Worker Protection Task Force in the Attorney General’s office.”

Senate Bill 193, sponsored by Hoffman in the House, establishes the Workers’ Protection Unit and the Worker Protection Task Force within the office of Attorney General. The bill is designed to oversee and strengthen protections for workers across the state to ensure employers are providing safe working environments, paying employees properly, and driving healthy competition among businesses.

“Thanks to the support of my colleagues in the legislature, this bill is now sitting on the governor’s desk,” Hoffman said. “It is my sincere hope that the governor will sign the legislation into law to protect and uplift workers in our state.”
