JOLIET, Ill. – State Representative Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, recently hosted a monthly Women’s Legislative Advisory Committee meeting at Joliet Black Road Branch Library.
The group discussed different pieces of legislation being supported by Rep. Manley, including mental health issues, the culture of mental health education in school environments, the future of dyslexia screenings, and the challenges of helping advocacy groups effectively work within the government to achieve legislative and policy change.
“Advisory Committees like this are so helpful, because I can have discussions with field experts and gain their feedback on legislative ideas,” said Manley. “During this Advisory Committee, I had the chance to speak with professionals in healthcare, advanced practice nursing, social service agencies, law, labor, and education. Discussing the problems we face with the people in my district is essential to representing them in Springfield.”
