SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Marcus Evans, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after Gov. Bruce Rauner’s annual budget address:

“Illinois cannot afford to be a part of the governor’s political games anymore. My district has suffered the past four years from the Governor’s unwillingness to compromise with the General Assembly. We deserve a budget that will help protect our most vulnerable citizens and not destroy our communities. I refuse to pass a budget that protects the wealthy and not address the issues that are vital to the success of our young men and women throughout the community.

“Our neighborhoods on the south side of Chicago deserve the opportunity to succeed, which requires investing in our communities and fully funding education and after-school programs for our youth.

“The governor also addressed our crumbling infrastructure, which is in desperate need of repairs. As the chairman of the Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges Committee, I intend on playing an important role in working with my colleagues to pass legislation that will improve our state’s infrastructure.

“As a Representative for the 33rd District, I take pride in advocating for what is most important to me and my constituents.”

Evans has been a leading voice in the General Assembly for working class minority communities on the south side of Chicago and the southland (Burnham, Calumet City, Lansing, Lynwood, & Sauk Village). He has pushed for more funding for programs and education at all levels.
