SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In an effort to stimulate job growth in Illinois and the United States, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, introduced a two legislative proposals this week that would create local jobs and keep taxpayer dollars in the state.
“By purchasing goods that are manufactured in America, and specifically in Illinois, we are providing greater employment opportunities to workers here at home,” Hoffman said. “One of the best things we can do to help taxpayers and grow the economy is to invest in domestically made products.”
Hoffman’s legislative package includes House Bill 4574, which requires state agencies to purchase American made products in the process of buying products or goods. The second measure, House Bill 4575, requires state agencies to purchase Illinois manufactured products in the process of buying products or goods, if possible. If it is not feasible for Illinois products, agencies are then required to purchase American made products.
“We must continue to be proactive in our approach to support local jobs by purchasing Illinois and American made products,” Hoffman said. “This will allow us to become more competitive while moving us forward to support the hard-working men and women of our state.”
