ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is encouraging local students to participate in his  new “Celebrate Illinois” Art Contest in honor of the state’s bicentennial.

“To celebrate our 200 years of statehood, I am hosting an art contest to spotlight our local students’ talents and the rich, beautiful history of our great state,” Yingling said. “Throughout my visits to local schools and interactions with students, I have seen some tremendous art showcased in our classrooms and libraries. I am excited to see what talent can be featured across the 62nd District and to displaying the winner’s artwork in the state’s capitol.”

Yingling’s art contest is open to all K-12 students in the 62nd District and will be divided between two age groups: K-6 and 7-12. The theme is “Celebrate Illinois!” The artwork may use any variety of mediums, but is limited to two-dimensional pieces and must be an original work signed by the artist and the subject must be related to Illinois.

The deadline to submit artwork is March 5, 2018. Submissions must include the student’s full name, phone number, and school name and address.  They may be delivered or mailed to Yingling’s District Office at 1919 IL Rte. 83 Suite 1 in Round Lake Beach.  The 1st place artwork for each age group will be rotated on display in Yingling’s Springfield Office and his Round Lake Beach office. Winners will be announced on March 26, 2018.

“My art competition is a fun way to encourage our local students to take a hands on approach to learning more about our great state through creative means,” Yingling said. “I am eager to see what gets submitted and look forward to showcasing our artists’ work!”

The 62nd District contains all or portions of Grayslake, Gurnee, Hainesville, Ingleside, Round Lake communities and Wauconda. For more information or questions, please contact Yingling’s local office at 847-231-6262 or by email at repsamyingling@gmail.com.
