COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – This past Saturday, residents learned how to appeal the appraisal of their homes and potentially reduce their property taxes during a free seminar hosted by state Rep. Katie Stuart and Granite City Township Assessor Deborah Gray.

“Skyrocketing property taxes are always one of the main concerns that I hear when I am out going door-to-door in my district,” said Stuart. “The assessor’s office gave an extremely informative presentation about what exemptions are available to families, seniors and veterans, and I was extremely impressed with not only the information made available, but also the questions that my constituents had prepared in advance.”

Stuart’s property tax appeal gathered over twenty local residents who were able to ask questions pertaining to the process of appealing their property appraisal and obtaining the paperwork and information needed to do so. Stuart encourages anyone who was unable to attend or who would like more information about potential exemptions or freezes to contact her office at 618-365-6650 if they have any questions.
