BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Following the outbreak of legionnaires’ disease at the Quincy veterans home, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is introducing a resolution demanding answers for our veterans.

“Like many of you, I was horrified by the recent reports that indicated veterans had died at the Quincy veterans home as a result of legionnaires’ disease – this is unacceptable,” Hoffman said. “In order to get to the bottom of this, I’m calling on the Governor, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and the Department of Public Health to report their findings to the General Assembly to stop the spread of this dreaded disease.”

House Resolution 726 is a bipartisan effort which urges the Rauner administration, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Department of Public Health to provide a comprehensive assessment to the legislature on the nature of this outbreak to ensure it does not reoccur in the future.

“This should not be a partisan issue,” Hoffman said. “Republicans and Democrats, the Governor and the legislature must work together to solve this problem immediately to ensure no veterans are put at risk.”
