ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. John Connor, D-Lockport, is promoting a recently launched state helpline aimed at assisting individuals and families affected by opioid abuse.
“Opioid abuse and addiction sadly continues to take too many lives in our community,” Connor said. “We have to look at ways to address this problem, and one way to do that is to offer this free, confidential service that can immediately help those who are impacted.”
Created by the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances can be reached by calling 1-833-2FINDHELP. Specialists who are trained in evidence-based approaches to assist callers with finding treatment and recovery support services staff the helpline. Anyone who is affected is welcome to call the confidential line 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Unfortunately, there is a stigma associated with opioid abuse which prevents individuals from coming forward and addressing their problem,” Connor said. “We want to save lives, and I encourage anyone who is experiencing a struggle with opioids, or knows someone who is, to please call this line and begin the path to recovery.”
