COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, joined students and faculty of Edwardsville School District 7 to recognize local first responders at a luncheon this week.
“Through the DARE and School Resource Officer programs, District 7 fosters a positive relationship with safety officers, and this luncheon is an extension of that. The luncheon allows students from F.I.T. to get to know police, fire and community protection officers in an informal setting,” said Stuart. “This is yet another way the community shows appreciation for those who protect our safety every day. Successful community policing relies on a positive relationship between the community and the officers tasked with policing and events like this help ensure that future generations maintain a positive opinion and an appreciation of the fire and police departments.”
The school district invited firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians from the area to eat lunch with the students, explain their jobs and share why they decided to choose this career path.
“We celebrate our first responders with this lunch as a simple thank you for all they do to make our community safe and secure,” said Dr. Steve Stuart, principal of Lincoln Middle School. “The students of Lincoln Middle School enjoy spending time with these individuals to learn about their jobs and to express their thanks personally.”
