CHICAGO – To help keep families safe this holiday season, state Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, is providing residents with important safety tips when traveling.
“Sharing time with loved ones is one of the best parts of the Thanksgiving holiday – but it’s important to do so responsibly,” D’Amico said. “Families can avoid unnecessary risks and potentially dangerous situations during the holidays by taking small, yet significant safety measures.”
D’Amico’s important driving reminders for the holiday season include, but are not limited to:
- Drive with extra caution, observe and follow all traffic laws, and allow more time for travel;
- Avoid texting or engaging in any activities that may distract driving;
- Obey all posted speed limits, but drive even slower if necessary for weather conditions.
Additionally, if planning on consuming alcoholic beverages, D’Amico urges use of public transportation or assigning someone the designated driver role ahead of holiday travel.
“Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not just illegal, but endangers the lives of everyone else on the road,” D’Amico continued. “Let’s make sure everyone arrives home safely this holiday season by making arrangements in advance to have a designated driver.”
