ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – With the holiday shopping season underway, state Rep. John Connor, D-Lockport, is highlighting the Attorney General’s annual Safe Shopping Guide as an important resource for parents who want to make sure their gifts are safe.

“As a parent, I know that I want to have the peace of mind that the presents I give to my kids are safe,” Connor said. “I’ve seen too many stories of children who are injured by new toys that are defective or should have been recalled. This guide is a great source of information on how to avoid that risk in your own home.”

The Attorney General’s 2017 Safe Shopping Guide provides pictures and descriptions of products that have been recalled or are a known safety hazard. Items listed include toys, baby items, furniture, household items, clothing and motorized scooters. Problems with products include choking hazards, burn risks, lead issues, fire concerns and fall risk. Residents can view the guide online at: http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/2017_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf.

“A lot of the items in this guide relate to small children and babies,” Connor said. “It’s critically important that individuals take the steps necessary to be responsible and ensure that their home and the items found inside it are safe for everyone.”
