COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – To keep constituents safe amidst the multiple security and data breaches putting personal information at risk, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is hosting a cybersecurity seminar with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office this Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Collinsville Senior Center, located at 420 E Main St. in Collinsville.

“As technology is continuously advancing, unfortunately the hackers who steal personal information are advancing with it as we have seen over the past few months with the Equifax breach,” said Stuart. “Therefore, it is important that we protect the personal information that people use online and in person every day.”

A representative from the Attorney General’s office will discuss how consumers can protect themselves while using the internet, and how to safely use the internet when using social media or online shopping. The event is free and open to the public.

“The internet has made it easier for scam artists to steal personal information and all of us are vulnerable to falling victim to these scams,” said Stuart. “At this free seminar, residents will learn some easy steps to take to better protect themselves from becoming victims.”
