CHICAGO – State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, is condemning President Donald Trump’s tax scheme that would provide huge tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and the largest corporations, while increasing the tax burden on the average Cook County family by over $4,000.

“This proposal continues Donald Trump’s assault on the middle-class by taking tax relief away from working families to pay for tax-cuts for millionaires and billionaires,” Andrade said. “It’s clear that Donald Trump is more interested in rewarding his mega-rich campaign donors than advancing policy that will help the middle-class thrive.”

Trump and his Washington allies recently released a proposed tax plan, written behind closed doors and with no input from the public. Under Trump’s plan, millionaires and billionaires would receive huge tax breaks, while Cook County families would lose an average annual deduction of over $4,000 on their tax bills due to the repeal of the state and local tax (SALT) deduction.

Andrade is a sponsor of House Resolution 672, which opposes the cuts to the SALT deduction and urges Gov. Rauner to stand up to Trump and reject his handout to the ultra-wealthy guised as tax reform.

“This tax bill was written behind closed doors by Donald Trump’s corporate allies with no input from the public,” Andrade said. “I am calling on the governor and our state’s congressional members to stand up for the middle-class and reject Trump’s hand-out to the one percent.”
