BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – State Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Buffalo Grove, is condemning President Trump’s tax scheme that would raise taxes on middle-class families.
“Time after time, Donald Trump has proven through his conduct that he is too extreme to lead our country,” Carroll said. “Trump’s extreme tax plan was written behind closed doors by former Wall Street bankers now attempting to hide that the middle class would have to pay the bill.”
According to the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, the Trump tax plan would raise taxes on 20 percent of households and more than half of single parents. Roughly 26 million individuals reside in these families facing a tax increase, including 11 million adults and 15 million children. Under Trump’s tax plan, a single parent with $75,000 in earnings, 2 school-aged children and no child care costs would face a $2,440 tax increase. The middle-class tax increase would result from Trump’s tax plan killing many important tax credits and deductions, such as the state and local deduction, the adoption tax credit and the student loan interest deduction.
“Donald Trump’s Presidency has been one extreme attack on the middle class after another,” Carroll continued. “I will do everything in my power to stop Washington’s continued attempts to squeeze the middle class.”
