ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – Last week, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, was honored by Transform Illinois, a bipartisan collaborative of government leaders, civic organizations and research institutions focused on promoting local government efficiency, for his work to rid Illinois of unnecessary and duplicative taxing bodies.
“I am extremely honored and grateful to have been recognized for my legislative efforts to consolidate local units of government that continue to be a drain on taxpayers,” Yingling said.
“While there is still much work to be done, the measures enacted this year serve as a victory for the families throughout Illinois who are demanding real tax relief and greater control over their property tax bills.”
Yingling was the recipient of the “State Transformer” award for his legislative measures that make it easier to do-away with duplicative taxing bodies. His first measure, House Bill 607, would enable voters by referendum to dissolve taxable road districts. The second measure, Senate Bill 3, would allow county boards to merge or eliminate similar functioning smaller layers of government. Both measures are now law.
“Illinoisans are sick and tired of business as usual,” Yingling said. “In order to truly transform our state, we must continue to cut wasteful spending and work to reduce the tremendous tax burden forced onto hard-working families and small-business owners.”
