ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – On Saturday, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, participated in Ingleside’s Big Hollow Elementary School’s “Read-A-Thon” event where he spoke to local students about the importance of reading and read a short story to a small class of children and their parents.

“I appreciate the opportunity to visit with local elementary students and to have shared in their story time event,” Yingling said. “School children are our state’s greatest asset and we must continue to invest in their success. Reading is the foundation for a successful educational career, and I’m grateful for the teachers and parents work every day to instill the joy of reading in children.”

Yingling recently helped pass Senate Bill 1947, which creates a new school funding formula whereby local schools that Yingling represents would receive nearly $7 million in additional state funding and no school loses money. Yingling hopes the new state funding will pave the way for property tax relief for local homeowners while ensuring that every student receives a quality education.
