JOLIET, Ill. – At a recent Coffee and Conversation, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, provided Valley View School District 365U Superintendent James Mitchem and School Board Secretary Debbie Sykora with an update on the new school funding formula.

“The new school funding formula helps bring additional funding to schools throughout our community,” Manley said. “By providing more state funding for our schools, we can relieve pressure on local homeowners by decreasing the need to rely on property taxes to fund education. As the state continues to provide more money for our schools, this legislation includes provisions to give taxpayers more control over the cost of their property taxes.”

The Manley supported education funding reform, Senate Bill 1947, came as a result of bipartisan compromise. The plan aimed to fix a broken school funding system that favored wealthier school districts over needier ones. As part of the compromise, no school district lost funding, and the formula will ensure that additional dollars are brought into Manley’s district now and moving forward.

Manley hosts Coffee and Conversation meetings on a monthly basis. For information on an upcoming stop or to learn more about Manley’s legislative efforts, please visit her official Facebook page @natalie.manley.5, or contact her office at 815-725-2741 or RepManley@gmail.com.
