Welch: Trump Wrong to End DACA Protections

HILLSIDE, Ill. – State Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“President Trump’s decision to end DACA shows us yet again that his administration is driven by far-right ideals and values that are rooted in hate. Much like his response to the recent terrorist attack in Charlottesville, Donald Trump is letting his extremist allies, who lack moral guidance, control his agenda and tear hard-working families apart.

“DACA was created by President Obama after Congress failed to enact protections for children who were brought into the United States by their parents. Ending this program would force 800,000 young people out of the country they now call home. I call upon the governor to renounce this hateful act and reassure DACA recipients in Illinois that we will protect them from this blatant racism.”
