COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – As the new school year begins, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, will host a free financial aid seminar in partnership with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission to provide information on the types of financial aid that are available. The seminar will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. at Collinsville High School located at 2201 S Morrison Ave.
“As a mom and former teacher, ensuring that our children and students have accessible, affordable education is very important for me. Every student deserves the opportunity to attend college without the fear of unpayable debt looming over them once they enter the workforce,” Stuart said. “I’m sponsoring a plan to make education more affordable for Illinois students and crack down on lenders engaging in unfair or deceptive business practices.”
Stuart’s seminar with ISAC will include information on the costs associated with attending college and how to apply for the various state, federal and private financial aid sources that are available for students. It will also include information on how to avoid fraud when applying.
“We must do everything to put our students first, not the profits that the student loan industry has made off of those who are just starting their adult lives,” said Stuart. “I hope this seminar gives everyone an opportunity to come out and inform themselves on the different options available to them.”
This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. For more information or to RSVP contact Stuart’s constituent services office at 618-365-6650 or repkatiestuart@gmail.com.
