BELLEVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is offering local residents a way to prevent identity theft and clear old paperwork from their homes at a free Community Shred Day scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Southwestern Illinois College’s Parking Lot M2, located at 2500 Carlyle Ave. in Belleville.
“By disposing of sensitive and personal documents residents can help mitigate the risk of falling victim to identity theft and fraud,” Hoffman said. “I urge residents stop by the shred day and safely dispose of documents containing personal information that they have lying around their homes.”
Residents are invited to bring old, unneeded documents such as old tax returns, pay stubs, bills, and receipts to be safely disposed of. This event is free and open to the public.
